The breath of fire is a cleansing and invigorating breath. It is used to reduce anxiety and infuse the body with pure oxygen when depleted by stress or exercise. This is not a technique for focused meditation. It is frequently used by marital artists and other athletes before an event. It is one of a series of techniques taught in the school of Pranayama Yoga. This technique involves the full expansion of the diaphragm. You consciously expand your lower abdomen pushing the muscles forward. This results in your diaphragm expanding naturally and allowing the lungs to fill to maximum capacity if so desired; however, generally, unlike most yogic breathing, this is a shallow breathing style. Usually fast and shallow although you can switch it up if you like.
